Tom Deen is well-known in maritime law circles. Over the course of his 35 years in maritime and admiralty law, he has become known for his focus on client service. His deep reach extends to clients in all manner of industries, including construction, energy, transportation, and more. representing them in litigation, arbitration, and transactional cases in state and federal courts. He also serves as external general counsel when needed. With such a vast cache of knowledge as his, it is no wonder that Tom’s mantra for his clients is “If you need help, call. I am here to assist.” And judging by his successful outcomes, he walks the walk.

Beyond his role as litigator and arbitrator, Tom represents clients in transactional matters involving corporate governance and contracts, among other business areas. He also serves as counsel to individuals and entities in a legal advisory capacity on exposures in business transactions, counseling his clients on best practices focused on compliance of procedures, cost and risk. As external counsel, he provides guidance to his clients in their business dealings, including contract review and contract negotiation, insurance matters and human resources issues. Tom is also experienced in representing external clients as lead litigator or as manager to outside counsel.

Tom is a certified arbitrator and a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Houston Maritime Arbitrators Association. He has broad experience in maritime dispute resolution, representing parties as lead arbitrator, as well as a neutral third-party arbitrator presiding over arbitration cases.

In his spare time — when he finds some — Tom can be found at the water, fishing or sailboat racing. He is an aficionado of both offshore and inshore racing of mono-hull sailboats.
